This side table was designed to waste almost nothing

For Momentum Studio, reducing waste wasn't something to figure out after designing the 06 Side Table. It became part of the design itself.

The Germany-based studio developed the table around a simple constraint: how much of a sheet of aluminum could actually become the finished object? By carefully nesting its laser-cut components, 96% of the raw material is used, leaving only 4% as offcuts.

That efficiency helps explain the table's distinctive geometry. Two rectangular aluminum panels intersect to create its structure, their large circular openings echoed by a round tabletop and lower shelf. What could have been discarded material instead contributes to the final form.

The result has a distinctly Bauhaus-inspired character, reduced to simple circles, straight lines and exposed construction. It's made from solid 5 mm AlMg3 aluminum, which is hand-brushed and waxed rather than given a pristine coating. The surface is intended to develop a natural patina as the table ages.

Production stays close to home, too. Momentum Studio says the 06 is designed and manufactured entirely within a 30 km radius of its studio in Kempten, Germany. The 6.75 kg table ships flat-packed and can be assembled in around five minutes.

It's a small example of what can happen when efficiency isn't treated as a compromise. Here, using less material didn't come at the expense of the design. It created it.
