Danny L Harle reimagines a century-old silent film with a live soundtrack
Danny L Harle brings a new sonic interpretation to F. W. Murnau's 1926 silent film Faust, combining electronic music, original recordings and piano compositions for an exclusive performance at MUBI FEST London.
A century after its original release, F. W. Murnau's silent film Faust is returning to the big screen with an entirely new soundtrack, curated and performed live by British electronic music producer Danny L Harle.
Presented as part of MUBI FEST London 2026, the special screening will take place on November 15 at Hackney Picturehouse, celebrating the 100th anniversary of one of German silent cinema's most celebrated works.

Originally released in 1926, Faust is a dark fantasy inspired by the German legend of a man who makes a pact with the devil. Known for its elaborate visual effects, dramatic lighting and expressionist imagery, the film remains a landmark of early cinema.
For this anniversary presentation, Harle will create a new musical interpretation of Murnau's film, combining original material with recordings from his personal archive, piano compositions and previously developed sketches.

Classically trained at Goldsmiths and Guildhall, Harle has built a career moving between experimental electronic music and contemporary pop. His collaborations with artists including Charli XCX, Dua Lipa and PinkPantheress have established him as a distinctive producer whose work frequently blurs the boundaries between electronic experimentation and mainstream music.
The project offers an unexpected meeting between two creative worlds separated by a century. Murnau's supernatural imagery and theatrical compositions will be experienced alongside Harle's contemporary approach to sound, giving audiences an opportunity to rediscover the film through a different musical perspective.

The screening also coincides with the release of Faust Bible: The Making of F. W. Murnau's Masterpiece, published by MUBI Editions.
Faust + Danny L Harle takes place on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at 2 PM at Hackney Picturehouse in London.
