Obscura (experience): Ctrl by SZA - 9:00pm
Released in 2017, SZA’s CTRL became one of the defining R&B albums of its generation, blending neo-soul, alternative R&B and hip-hop with deeply personal songwriting.
Across tracks like “Love Galore,” “The Weekend,” and “Drew Barrymore,” the album moves through desire, insecurity, jealousy, intimacy and self-discovery with an honesty that feels both vulnerable and completely addictive.
Nearly a decade later, CTRL remains as emotionally immediate as ever, this time experienced entirely in the dark.
For its first Toronto edition, Obscura takes over the Norman Jewison Cinema at The Hazelton Hotel for an intimate 25-seat listening session.
Presented by Ic3y Mag, Obscura is an immersive listening experience where full-length albums are experienced in surround sound and complete darkness.
Hosted inside a cinema, the format removes visual distractions and places the entire focus on sound.
Eye masks are provided. Phones away. No talking. One album, from beginning to end.
