Troye Sivan's "Got Me Started": A Sampling of Stardom

In the ever-evolving world of pop music, artists are constantly seeking fresh ways to captivate their audience. Troye Sivan, the Australian-born sensation, is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of creativity in his music. Just a few months ago, Sivan graced us with the catchy pop anthem "Rush," which quickly found its way into our hearts and summer playlists. Now, he's back with a brand new single that not only promises to be another chart-topper but also introduces a nostalgic twist. Introducing "Got Me Started," the second single from his forthcoming album, "Something To Give Each Other." What makes this track truly remarkable? Well, for the first time ever, the original song "Shooting Stars" by Bag Raiders is being sampled.

The Powerhouse Behind "Got Me Started"

Before diving into the delightful details of this fresh release, let's take a moment to acknowledge the musical geniuses behind it. Troye Sivan teamed up with the acclaimed producer Ian Kirkpatrick, known for his work on Dua Lipa's chart-topping hits like "New Rules" and "Don't Start Now." With additional writing credits from luminaries such as Leland, Tayla Parx, and Kaelyn Behr, "Got Me Started" boasts an impressive pedigree right from its inception.

A Nod to the Past: "Shooting Stars" by Bag Raiders

The real magic of "Got Me Started" lies in its clever use of sampling. This infectious track samples "Shooting Stars," a song originally released by the Australian duo Bag Raiders in 2008. The decision to incorporate this iconic track into his own work wasn't made lightly. Sivan, in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, shed some light on the process and the significance of this choice.

"It was one of the first songs that we wrote for the album, and it just stuck around," Sivan explained. "And [Bag Raiders] were like, 'By the way, we've had hundreds of requests and we've never said, 'Yeah, so don't f*** this up.' And I was like, 'I promise you, I'm going to make a video. It's going to be sick.' Like, I really believe in this. And I also, I think it's tacky when people sample something like out of term, you know what I mean? And I really, really, really didn't want to do that. And I wouldn't be doing this if I felt like that's what I was doing."

This glimpse into the thought process behind the sampling decision highlights Sivan's respect for the original artists and his desire to pay homage to a track that holds a special place in the hearts of many.

The Birth of a Fresh Sound

The journey from inspiration to creation is often filled with challenges and doubts. Sivan revealed, "It was something that came in the studio naturally... And I was like, 'oh my God. And we put it in and it worked.'" This serendipitous blending of the old and the new gave birth to "Got Me Started," a track that seamlessly integrates the familiar with the contemporary, creating a musical experience that resonates with fans both old and new.

Troye Sivan's "Got Me Started" is more than just another pop hit; it's a testament to the power of creativity, respect for musical heritage, and the relentless pursuit of innovative sounds. As we eagerly await the release of "Something To Give Each Other," this second single has set the bar high, promising an album that will undoubtedly make waves in the world of music.

So, whether you're a die-hard Bag Raiders fan or a devoted follower of Troye Sivan's ever-evolving career, "Got Me Started" is a musical journey you won't want to miss.
